God’s Soldiers Apprenticeship Program (GSAP...Carpentry Works)
The People’s Academy aspires to teach inner city residents a trade that will make them more employable and to create jobs within local neighborhoods for those same Residents. Training will be offered in the areas of copper fabricating, plumbing, carpentry, electrical wiring, construction, auto mechanics, heating, ventilation and air conditioning, property management, landscaping, painting, legal work, and real estate financing and development.
“Al Skii” Developmental Basketball League (ASDBL) to “Proven-Risk Neighborhoods” (GSADB/BN)
This program uses basketball and its teaching tenants in order to engage young people in the city of Boston’s “Hot Spots” areas. Central to the program, we utilize graduates and supporters of the program as keynote speakers and ask them to discuss the rigors of hard work and how to avoid the pitfalls and vices of urban living.
The Young Men’s Re-entry/Violent Offenders Outreach Program (GSVOP/AMP)
The Young Men’s Re-entry/Violent Offenders Outreach Program targets young men that have been perpetrators of many of the city’s most heinous crimes, and in doing so, have mentioned that in the midst of their rage, they acted without constraint. We are running this program to engage some of these violent offenders who are re-entering from the Department of Youth Services (DYS), the courts, or the adult prison system. The Program provides a summer and fall component of teaching, Presentations, role-playing and group discussions along with potentially weekly Individualized counseling.
Gloves not Guns Boxing Program (GSGNG...Houston Power Boxing)
Currently partnering with the Houston Power Boxing Program, our program has already taken many kids off the streets and placed them in a stable environment by Providing a Safe haven which allows them to exchange blows as opposed to gun fire. Through our program, we are teaching the scientific and technical side of the sport of boxing along with equipping and training our boxers for amateur fights and beyond. Our Program has already spawned similar programs around the city in hopes of resurrecting the dying sport of boxing.
Golf not Guns Golf Charity/Tournament (GSGNG)
“Golf not Guns” is a horizon broadening program to intertwine some of our other programming; thus, this new initiative in the Boston area, is an outgrowth of its parent affiliate, the “Daddy Wo” golf charity, of Pittsburgh, PA, in honor of the late Karen V. Womack and its founder, Calvin “Daddy Wo” Womack, who is a legendary golf instructor having taught within the Tiger Woods First-Tee program. Through our “Golf not Guns” annual fundraising tournament, with the assistance of all those looking to invest in change, we endeavor to bring greater diversity to the game of golf in order to address many of the kinds of issues bombarding and confronting our youth on a daily basis, and serve the needs that are so desperately lacking for this population. And, by the Grace of God, we hope we have shared information with these young persons that will help them to experience the transforming power of Love in overcoming negative circumstances and behaviors.
GIRLS MENTORING PROGRAM (GSGMP)
Girls Mentoring Program will facilitate group sessions at Tech Boston Academy for a duration of 7-8 weeks per session and will service 15 girls per session. GSGMP will meet one day per week for an average of 40-60 minutes.
Boston Beautification/Landscaping Program (GSLAND)
The Community Beautification and Landscaping Program is where the youth and young adults have an opportunity to understand entrepreneurial ventures and reinvestment back into the communities where they reside. This program has a partnership in an outside of Boston with the Greater neighboring Boston community. It allows youth that are transitioning out of gang and violent lifestyles to work in a Safe and secure manner for themselves and others.
